A major international photographic institution, in memory of the great photographer Takis Tloupas, is created by the Region of Thessaly, based in Larissa.
A multi-level institution with three major pillars:
Two major annual photography competitions, one international photography competition and one for young artists from our country.
A major photography festival with exhibitions that open up to new narratives and a structured original educational programme in conversation with the educational community on the gaze and its power.
Today, when the authenticity of the photographic image is questioned as never before, we hope to create the conditions for an intense and creative dialogue with society and the artistic community in Thessaly.

Απώτερος στόχος είναι η διοργάνωση ενός μεγάλου Φεστιβάλ με εκθέσεις των βραβευμένων έργων, που ανοίγονται σε νέες αφηγήσεις, και με μια σειρά από πρωτότυπες εκπαιδευτικές δράσεις σε συνεργασία με τα σχολεία όλων των βαθμίδων, πάνω στο βλέμμα και τη δύναμή του.
Η εποχή μας χαρακτηρίζεται από την κυριαρχία της εικόνας. Η επικοινωνία κατακλύζεται από μια υπερπληθώρα εικόνων, όπου τα προϊόντα τεχνητής νοημοσύνης και οι πλαστές εικόνες διαπλέκονται και συνυπάρχουν με τις αυθεντικές.
Αποτέλεσμα: η αυθεντικότητα της φωτογραφικής εικόνας αμφισβητείται όσο ποτέ.
Ο νέος θεσμός Tloupas PATH θέλει να δημιουργήσει τις προϋποθέσεις για έναν δημιουργικό διάλογο με την κοινωνία και την καλλιτεχνική κοινότητα σχετικά με τη χρήση της φωτογραφίας, και να βοηθήσει το κοινό όλων των ηλικιών να προβληματιστεί σχετικά με τη χρήση και κατάχρηση της εικόνας και να αναπτύξει το δικό του αισθητικό κριτήριο και την αντίληψή του για τη φωτογραφία.

ΟΙ ΘΕΜΑΤΙΚΟΙ ΚΥΚΛΟΙ
Ο νέος θεσμός Tloupas PATH εδράζεται στη διερεύνηση της τόσο σημαντικής σχέσης του ανθρώπου με το περιβάλλον μέσα στο οποίο ζει, με τη φιλοδοξία να λειτουργήσει ως αφύπνιση προβληματισμού για τη θέση του σύγχρονου ανθρώπου στον κόσμο. Αυτή άλλωστε είναι και η παρακαταθήκη του έργου του Τάκη Τλούπα.
Με αυτόν τον προβληματισμό, και κάτω από το εννοιολογικό πλαίσιο της «Σχέσης του ανθρώπου με το περιβάλλον», οι διοργανωτές θα ανακοινώνουν κάθε χρόνο έναν διαφορετικό Θεματικό Κύκλο, αποκλειστικό για τη συγκεκριμένη χρονιά.
The institution could only be inspired by man and his relationship with the environment. This is also the legacy of the work of Takis Tloupas. Thus, all the themes have man and human activity at their core, a choice that certainly does not exclude purely landscape approaches, since global landscape and climate are the result of human activity.
The 2025 competitions, “Young Photographers’ Competition for young photographers under 30 years old” and “International Competition for mid-career photographers” have as their theme “Man and his relationship with nature”.

Ο Λαρισαίος Τάκης Τλούπας, ο αυτοδίδακτος φωτογράφος της Θεσσαλίας, άφησε το ιδιαίτερο σημάδι του στη νεοελληνική φωτογραφία.
Οι εικόνες του διέσωσαν έναν κόσμο που χανόταν, την αγροτική ζωή στην αυγή της εποχής της εκβιομηχάνισης στην Ελλάδα, τον μόχθο των ανθρώπων της υπαίθρου και την καθημερινή τους μάχη για επιβίωση, τη συμβίωσή τους με το φυσικό περιβάλλον, αλλά και τη ζωή στον αστικό ιστό της Λάρισας. Με τον φακό του αιχμαλώτισε την ταυτότητα της Ελλάδας μεταπολεμικά, μιας Ελλάδας που διαισθανόταν ότι άλλαζε ραγδαία και ριζικά. Αυτή η καταγραφή, εκτός από ανάγκη προσωπικής έκφρασης, χαρακτηρίζεται από την ανθρωπιστική και εθνογραφική σημασία της.
Takis Tloupas, born in Larissa, was a self-taught photographer, leaving an indelible mark on modern Greek photography.
His images highlight the authentic Greek countryside, the simplicity of life and the beauty of the human element. With his lens, he captured the essence of Greece, giving us unique images that inspire us to this day.

What is the Tloupas PATH competition and awards?
The Tloupas PATH Awards are part of Tloupas PATH, an institution inspired by the work and identity of the Larissa photographer Takis Tloupas Tloupas who lived and worked in the city of Larissa for more than 40 years, capturing his hometown and life throughout the Thessalian plain. Takis Tloupas created an extensive photographic ethnographic archive, which is a reference for an important transitional period of the Greek countryside and society. The Tloupas PATH Awards photography competition and prizes are the centrepiece of the annual Tloupas PATH festival, which includes exhibitions, events, talks and educational programmes for children and adults.
What is the competition process and the prizes - the exhibitions?
The open competition will take the form of an open call for expressions of interest – OPEN CALL. At the beginning of each year, the institution will define a theme on which all annual events will be based. This theme will also be the theme of the OPEN CALL of the same year. The competition will be open for 60 days in the spring of each year and candidates will be able to submit their proposals on the institution’s platform. The details of the submission are described in detail in paragraphs 3, 4 and 6 below.
What are the themes of the institution?
The institution could only be inspired by man and his relationship with the environment. This is also the legacy of the work of Takis Tloupas. Thus, all themes have at their core man and human activity, a choice that certainly does not exclude purely landscape approaches, since global landscape and climate are the result of human activity. The annual themes are more of a guideline and a trigger for multiple and different interpretations and approaches than a limiting condition.
Who can take part in the competition?
The Tloupas PATH Awards are open to amateur or professional photographers, recognized or emerging, from Greece or the rest of the world, regardless of age, with as many photographs as they wish, but always according to the conditions and terms of the categories proposed each time by the institution. There is no restriction on the photographic medium or style of the images submitted. Participants may not be employees, representatives or partners of Tloupas PATH Awards.
What are the categories of the awards?
For 2025 there are 2 categories that operate on the Open Call logic: (a) a category of young photographers under 30 years old, with limited work, and (b) a category of established photographers in the middle of their careers with known work, publications and exhibitions. In both cases, the submission can only be made through the institution’s website at the relevant link (SUBMISSION or OPEN CALL) with a portfolio of a series of photos – as specified in detail in each category separately.
