EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS IN LARISSA PRIMARY SCHOOLS

In a world dominated by images – not only on an artistic and creative level but also on the level of overall communication between people, exchange of opinions and exchange of current news, we believe that familiarity with the photographic image is not only a huge asset in the education of young people but above all a communicative necessity.

To confirm this claim, one can see the extent of the use of images on the internet (and in most applications, communication is done only with images – as is done in most social networks). Visitors and social media users are invited to experience the world through images. More than ever, images are a new global language of communication.

The support and promotion of the idea of photographic education must begin at the lower educational levels and be gradually integrated into the creative activities of children from the first grades of elementary school.

Our educational approach

The support and promotion of the idea of photographic education must begin at the lower educational levels and be gradually integrated into the creative activities of children from the first grades of elementary school.

With repeated seminars inside and outside the classroom, either during the course or during visits to relevant museums with external speakers, we aim to open the horizons of children, not only in terms of their photographic education, which will be the typical subject of all these educational meetings. The way photographic images are discussed increases children’s understanding of dialogue. It is an educational approach that looks not simply at the “criticism” of images but also at the process of exposing children to public viewing with courage and confidence and allowing them to develop ideas about images and meanings (about their personal photographic images/choices) from an early age.

Both in the classroom and in outdoor spaces where the students will be visiting, there can be a screening of photographic images (including those by Takis Tloupas) and a discussion about how children perceive and how they should read the meaning of a photographic image. The workshops will be repeated during the technicians’ course for a period of approximately 8-10 weeks (depending on the total hours dedicated to photography).

End of education

At the end of the educational/teaching process, a specific photographic exercise with a specific theme will be requested. The photographs that will be produced (by the children) will be discussed and the exchange of opinions will be cultivated.
